Why Selling is Exactly Like Sex

I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed on Mike Mantell's podcast. He is a phenomenally engaging interviewer, and the whole conversation was a blast, but this particular 17-minute segment on selling was so especially rich that I asked permission to pre-release it.

In it, we discuss the ethical razor's edge of selling, the inherent intimacy of selling, and how selling is like sex – not just abstractly, but for me personally and viscerally. I make a case for allowing the pace of a sale to slow WAY down to the speed of real human relationship. Finally I share my obsession with making businesses fit their owners like a tailored suit, and why I and my clients require nothing less.

Enjoy the conversation. And please share what you take away from it!

Building Your Visionary Team

This year, if you’re giving birth to something bigger than ever before, you will need more and better support than ever before.I’m not just saying “you can’t do it alone,” which you already know. What is Privilege-Based Pricing?

Privilege-Based Pricing is an innovative pricing structure designed for social justice. Unlike sliding scale systems which typically have no guidelines or simple income-based guidelines for how much to pay, Privilege-Based Pricing takes clients through a rigorous self-reflection and conversation process which determines a discount on services, ranging from zero to 50%.

So Much to Celebrate!

So Much to Celebrate!

How often do you take time to celebrate? As a recovering overachiever, celebration is something I'm practicing. Growing a business can feel like a grind, unless we take time to pause and celebrate our efforts and accomplishments.

There’s a lot to celebrate right now in my business, and I’d like to share it with you.

On Sensitive Sales

On Sensitive Sales

If you’re in business for yourself, sales is essential to your livelihood, and if you’re uncomfortable with sales, it’s what’s between you and your livelihood.

In Daniel Pink’s wonderful book To Sell is Human, he reminds us that we all engage in sales all the time. Getting your kid out of bed in the morning is sales. Asking someone on a date is sales. But if selling is human, why does the term “sales” seem so slimy?
